RSUST To Build Agropreneurs
Towards realizing self-
reliance in food supply in Africa, the “Advancement and Linkages Centre” of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology has commenced efforts to bring the dream to reality.
Director of the Centre, Professor Akpezi Ogbuigwe, who gave this hint in a chat with The Tide in her office, stated that the effort started with the presentation of a lecture titled “How Africa Can Feed Itself.”
“We started with the fact that Africa can feed itself, because if you cannot feed yourself, then there is a problem. Africa feeding itself is the starting point of maturity and it had to show how in a practical way,” she said.
According to her, the second lecture will come up this month, and experts will be brought to tutor attendees on agropreneurship, Nigeria is supposed to be making money beyond mere subsistence feeding.
“We are aiming at building a body of young people in Nigeria that will be proud to be Agropreneurs, people who make money from agriculture. We are going to be looking at the issues of storage and security around agriculture.
“In April, the Breakfast Academy will, in accordance with its aim of going beyond theories to practical, take the nagging issue of power in Nigeria, and time-tested experts will be on hand to tackle the issues.
Prof Ogbuigwe added that the Breakfast Academy would also delve into such areas as waste management in a bid to tackling the issue of turning waste to wealth”.
