Best Sanitation Friendly Award: Ikwerre LGA Richer With N.5m
The Ikwerre Local Govern
ment Area has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the Best Sanitation Friendly Award of the Rivers. State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) for last month.
The award with a prize tag of N500,000 is aimed at motivating and encouraging all the council areas in the state to key into the vision of the State Governor, Chief .Nyesom Wike to rid the State of dirt and wastes and to promote the well-being of the people by ensuring that their surroundings are clean and habitable.
The yardsticks employed in ascertaining the winner of the Sanitation Friendly Award include keeping the Local Government Area clean, massive turn-out of the people for the monthly sanitation exercise across the 23 Local Government Areas, the state of the drainage in these areas, the care for public and government owned institutions and facilities including the Local Government Council headquarters etc.
Reacting to the award, the Sole Administrator of the State Waste Management Agency, Bro Felix Obuah congratulated the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon Samuel Nwanosike for being the first among equals in this collective effort to restore the lost glory of the State which occupies a pride of place in Wike’s New Vision for the State.
According to a statement by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the sole administrator of RIWAMA, the agency will continue to appreciate anybody or council that make concerted efforts to make the State the cleanest in the country and has put’ in place a panel of impartial judges to look out for these collaborators based on laid down criteria.
Bro Obuah enjoined the Ikwerre Local Government Council to justify their victory by improving on the standard already set, while enjoining other local government areas to take advantage of the award to keep their areas clean.
