Mob Attacks Man For Rapping 13-Yr-Old Girl
An angry mob on Monday descended heavily on a man described as serial rapist for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl along the Akenfa area of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that the 35 years old suspected rapist,who is an indigene of Delta State,was apprehended by mob for defiling the girl after weeks of surveillance on the suspect.
According to the story, the victim was lured out of her parent’s home with “sweet” and warned not to inform anybody of the atrocity.
Unknown to the suspect, people of the area who had been suspecting his movement following series of complaints of raping young girls, saw when he took the girl to an uncompleted building.
While on the act, the mob burst in and dragged him out half naked and started beating him, but somebody who suspected he might be killed quickly sent a distress call to the police who responded promptly.
The Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command,Astimin Butswat,who confirmed the incident,said that “On the 4th of October at about 9.30pm, Policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Yenagoa,responded to a distress call from residents of Akenfa 1 Community, Yenagoa.On arrival, they met an irate mob attacking one Akpobomei Micheal, aged 35 years, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. The suspect was rescued and was subsequently detained.”
“The police command appreciate the commitment of members of the public in assisting Police in fighting crimes, they should however desist from beating suspects. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
