Police Nab 30 Robbers, Recover Arms In Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command, says, it has arrested 30 suspected armed robbers for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities in the state.
The State Police Command also, recovered 134 ammunition of various degrees in their rankings.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Kimo, disclosed this during a press briefing held at State Police Command headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, yesterday.
CP Kimo said that during the period under review which covers between August 9, to September 9, this year, the police recorded impressive results. He said six suspected armed robbers, seven suspected kidnappers and six suspected cultists were arrested, while, in another operation, three armed robbers, and eight suspects were fatally wounded.
According to him, six kidnap victims were rescued while three AK 47, 11 pump action guns, 10 locally made pistols and two short guns were recovered.
The State Police boss further disclosed that three double barrel guns, three single barrel guns, 25 assorted ammunition, 76 cartridges as well as nine assorted vehicles were also recovered.
He stated that on 16th September, 2015 at about 10pm by Christ Avenue, off Reclamation Road, Port Harcourt, the police acting on a tip off raided a hideout of a criminal gang that specializes in robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their vehicles, adding that a total of six assorted suspected stolen vehicles, were recovered from them.
CP Kimo listed the recovered vehicles to include BMWX5 Jeep with registration number Lagos FKJ673DM, Toyota Lexus Saloon Car with registration No. Abuja GWA235KL, Toyota Corolla, No Lagos FKJ674DM , NISSAN Xterra Jeep Rivers PBT284AA, NISSAN Altima, Bayelsa AH714 NEM and Volkswagen Jetta, Rivers XR676PHC.
The State Commissioner of Police also told journalists that on September 18 this year at about 0.200pm, a police patrol team at Igbo Etche intercepted a four-man armed robbery gang, adding that three of the suspects were fatally wounded during exchange of fire, while one AK47 rifle, two pump action guns, 15 cartridges as well as 20 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from them.
He said that he had directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to redouble their efforts in crime fighting by embarking on massive raids of suspected criminal hideouts and blackspots even as he sounded a note of warning to criminals to either relocate from the state or turnover a new leaf and become responsible citizens of the country.
