We’re Re-Branding Rivers, Wike Assures
The hosting of the Olym
pic qualifier between Nigeria’s Under-23 Dream Team VI and their Congolese counterpart has been described as a way of exposing the state’s numerous sports potentials to the world.
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who made the observation while playing host to the National Executive Council of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) led by its President, Abubakar Saidu at Government House, Port Harcourt last Saturday, said his administration is poised to revamp the good image of the state.
He called on the body to move around the state and feel the pulse of the people, reasoning that first-hand information was necessary for them to affirm how safe the state is for investment and tourism.
For Wike, the hosting of the international match is also a testimony that the state is peaceful, while explaining that the state hosted the match as its own contribution to sports development in the country.
“Here, everybody is safe. All over the world, you cannot guarantee 100 per cent security,” he pointed out.
Commending the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for giving the state the opportunity to host the football match, while declaring the readiness to host more sports events in the future, Wike restated that the government will do all in its powers to ensure the U-23 Dream Team coasts home in victory.
of the governors, and we have seen your commitment.”
While pleading with the governor to fulfill the pledge made by the immediate past administration to the association, Saidu enjoined Wike not to relent in giving sports special attention in his administration.
