Rivers PCC Gets New Commissioner …Urges Investigation Of Maladministration
A new federal Commissioner has been appointed for the Public Complaints Commission, in Rivers State.
He is Dr. Alpheaus Paul-Worika, a former Editor with the Rivers state Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide Newspapers.
Paul-Worika holds a post graduate Diploma in Journalism and a Doctorate degree in Philosophy from the University of Port Harcourt and hails from Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers state..
The new commissioner, who has since assumed duties, takes over from Hon. Stephen Ezekwem Amenin, a former speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly and former Commissioner for Water Resources in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the Public Complaints Commissioner for Rivers State, Dr. Alpheaus Paul-Worika, has advised staff of the Commission to be creative in resolving cases of administrative injustice in the state in order to sustain the confidence of the people.
Speaking during his inaugural meeting with staff in Port Harcourt, the new commissioner highlighted his vision for the commission, stating that the Act establishing the Public Complaints Commission bestows enormous powers on the commission, and promised to ensure that staff understand these powers as the commission charts a new course under his administration.
The commissioner promised to uphold the mission and vision of the Public Complaints Commission, and sued for efficiency and co-operation among staff of the various departments.
Speaking, head of Administration, Mr. Bonaventure Kue, assured the commissioner of the co-operation of the staff, and highlighted some areas of concern such as the nosy work environment, lack of operational vehicles and wrong perception of the commission by members of the public.
Also speaking, the head of Investigation, Mr. Adokiye Iworima, noted that investigation was the hallmark of the commission, and stressed the need for the commission to initiate complaints as prescribed by the PCC Act rather than rely on complaints by members of the public.
