Students Woo Wike On ICT-Farm Rebirth
The Rivers State Governor,
Chief Ezenwo Wike, has been urged to revisits the state annual vacation ICT programme (ICT-Farm) in order to improve the students knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Some students who spoke with The Tide Wednesday, in Port Harcourt, said the ICT programme was of immense help to students as many of them have benefited from the scheme.
A Senior Secondary School Student, Ngozi Omah said the experience gained at previous ICT holiday programme was second to none and should be maintained.
She said students who passed through the system have added advantage over their counterparts who are yet to have the least knowledge on ICT.
Omah, noted that the state was foresighted in the ICT vacation class, adding that its intention and ideas should be sustained.
She explained the need to ascertain the reasons behind its suspension since last year, adding that there is the need to revamp the system as holidays are around the corner.
Also speaking, a junior secondary school student, (JSS III), at Rumueme Girls Secondary School, Ada Uche, said the governor should look beyond politics and ensure that ICT was properly nurtured in the State.
She regretted that Rivers State has not participated in ICT programmes in recent time following the political crisis that rocked the state in the middle of past administration.
Uche, who called for the appointment of Special Adviser on ICT, said it should be based on merit and not political ground.
She explained that it only takes someone with proper ICT skill/knowledge to pilot the scheme in order to command the needed respect.
Others also made case for the 2015 edition of the ICT-Farm, saying it is their own dividend of democracy.
It would be recalled that the state government has in 2010 commenced ICT-holiday class known as ICT-Farm for all primary and secondary school students who are resident in the state.
