Rivers Dep Gov Lauds NUJ Over Peaceful Polls
The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, has congratulated the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, Mr. Omoni Ayo-Tamuno and members of his executive on their victory at the just-concluded triennial Delegates Conference in Port Harcourt.
In a statement signed yesterday by her Press Secretary, Paulinus Nsirim, the deputy governor noted that the successful conduct of the election has again proved that journalists are capable of performing their role as the watchdog of society.
“The press, as the fourth estate of the realm has enormous responsibilities in our democratic journey and should always display a high sense of responsibility and objectivity in their reportage”, she stated.
The deputy governor urged journalists in the state to join hands with the Governor Nyesom Wike-led government in repositioning Rivers State for the overall development of all sectors of the economy.
She noted that the present administration would make the state the investors’ haven and called on journalists to be in the vanguard for its realization.
