Bishop Condemns Murder Of Vicar In Rivers
The Bishop, Diocese of Okrika, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt Rev. Tubokosimie R. Abere has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of its Vicar, Rev. Ibienebo I. Jamabo on Wednesday, 17th June, 2015 in Wakama-Ama, in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Jamabo, was until his brutal murder, by unknown gunmen, the vicar in charge of St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Wakama-Ama.
Abere, who spoke through a statement issued by the Diocesan Communicator, Ms. Mediline Ingowari Tador, pointed out that Jamabo was allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen, within the church premises at Wakama-Ama, adding that the hoodlums also set ablaze the parsonage, killed a nine-year old boy and , wantonly destroyed of property, including vehicles.
Wakama-Ama and the neighbouring community of Kpoghor in Tai Local Government Area have had frosty relationships over the past few years
The statement added that it was appalling that Rev Jamabo who was not a member of the community, and was not involved in any unwholesome community activities was murdered in such a manner while he was duely carrying out his spiritual assignment, adding that this was one murder too many.
His demise, is a devastation to his family, the diocese, and the entire Okrika community, the statement noted.
The statement also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family, the wife, clergy and the entire Laity of the Diocese of Okrika,
The statement called on the police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators of the bastardly act are unravelled promptly, adding that the diocese will be available to assist in the success of the investigation.
The statement also enjoined the government of Rivers State, to live up to its responsibilities in securing of the lives of the citizenry as well as the protection of properties.
While committing the souls of the dearly departed into the Hands of the Almighty God, the statement further urged the people of the state to pray fervently for the return of peace to the affected communities and the entire Rivers State.
