PDP Chief Admits Movement Of INEC Sensitive Materials
A former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Opara, has admitted that sensitive materials meant for the April 11 Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Asari Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State were removed on the day of the elections.
All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state had accused PDP of hijacking the sensitive materials meant for the conduct of the elections.
Hon. Opara is a chieftain of PDP in Rivers.
Speaking on Friday on an Africa Independent Television (AIT), breakfast program, Opara, who claimed the elections passed all credibillity test, also launched verbal vituperation against Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
Opara, who fought to defend the irregularities committed on election day, said that before the fire incident that engulfed the RAC in Buguma, Asari Toru, sensitive materials to be used had been removed.
However, he failed to disclose who removed the sensitive materials and to where they were taken.
The former deputy speaker claimed the elections of April 11 went on violence-free in Rivers State, disclaiming reports of unparalleled reports by international, national and local observers that armed militia attacked several communities and voting points, in most cases, hijacking electoral materials at gun point.
The former deputy speaker also revealed that PDP in Rivers State has gone to court stop the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), has announced timetable for the grassroots elections to hold in May.
With courts closed in Rivers, Opara did not disclose where the matter will be heard.
However, he gave indications of crisis as a result of the council polls.
Most likely speaking for the PDP in Rivers State, Opara said there would be crisis if the elections held.
“Amaechi should call-off the elections. There will be crisis in Rivers state if the local government election is held”.
Though he alluded he would not be playing grassroots politics, Opara, however, revealed the importance himself and PDP attach to the election.
“The local government election is important to every politician”, he said.
The former Deputy Speaker indirectly attacked AIT for giving airtime to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Rivers, to disseminate what the party says are proofs of the violence that shaped the April 11 elections.
