House Receives Kudos Over Project Implementation
The Clerk of the Cross
River State House of Assembly (CRHA), Bar. Bassey Ekpenyong, has given the Assembly a pat on the back for a job well done in the area of project completion, in the previous year.
Bar. Ekpenyong made the assertion when he defended the 2015 budget estimate before the Finance and Appropriation House Committee on Finance and Appropriation held in the Assembly’s Chambers, recently in Calabar.
He maintained that in 2014 alone, several private member and executive bills were passed into law, noting that only one was left which he hoped would be passed soon.
The Clerk pointed out that the speaker and deputy speaker were entitled to official cars and their quarters renovated on yearly basis.
Bar. Ekpenyong who said the assembly budget was N3.8bn, lamented that no provision was made in the budget for furnishing of quarters and severance allowance for members at the end of their service to the State.
He further stated that the Assembly was faced with inadequate accommodation for staff.
On the collapsed portion of the fence of the Assembly quarters which had resulted to encroachment, the Clerk said the Ministry of Land had been contacted for necessary action, while the issue of security at the quarters was also being tackled with the police authorities.
Reacting to the presentation made by the Clerk, members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, who were present, said the budget estimate did not reflect the autonomy the assembly was craving for. They called on the Clerk to incorporate all issues for proper presentation.
