The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature has restated the commitment of his command to give all politicians in the state equal treatment, irrespective of their party affiliations.
The commissioner stated this while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obio/Akpor Local Government Area during a protest march organised by the group to the state Police Command Headquarters along Moscow Road to register harassment and attack on their members by alleged supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.
Bature assured the protesters that the police would be professional and impartial in discharging its duties to ensure that all political parties have equal opportunities to operate during and after the general elections.
He said “you have heard from your leaders that we provide security, we will ensure that you carry out all your activities lawfully. We will ensure that you go about all that you want to do within the confines of the law. In fact, we are determined to fight for you. When we want to address them, we will ensure justice to everybody, that is our determined objective”, he declared.
The police boss further urged members and candidates of the APC in Obio/Akpor Local Government to be law abiding, and warned against heating up the polity.
“What I expect from you is nothing but fairness in carrying out your activities. I also expect that you will always send messages down the line to your supporters to play by the rules. We want to prove our detractors that say Nigeria cannot get it right, we know we can get it right”, he stated.
Bature stated that the Federal Government has assured that the forthcoming elections “will be the best”, adding that “the police were determined to make it the best”.
