Grant Debunks Rumour Of Skippers Change
New Ghana coach
Avram Grant says he has no intentions of replacing Asamoah Gyan as captain of the Black Stars.
The former Chelsea boss’ appointment has raised subtle doubts over whether the Al Ain star will remain the substantive skipper of the side.
Gyan succeeded John Mensah as captain of the Black Stars before the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
His leadership qualities has however been severally called into question – especially at the height of the players’ agitation during the 2014 World Cup.
Some reports even suggested the 29-year-old was ready to quit his leadership post – a report the former Sunderland man has refuted.
New Ghana coach Avram Grant however believes there is no reason to change the leadership guard with the Black Stars since Asamoah Gyan, according to him has done a good job.
“I didn’t meet the team yet but as far as I know Gyan has done a good job so I see no reason to replace him,” he said.
“I need to meet the players first.”
