We’ll Form Parallel Govt – Amaechi
Activities in Government House continued on a strong
note as early in the week Governor Chibuike Amaechi presided over the State Executive Council meeting to discuss issues of development and governance.
On Wednesday of Abuja, Governor Amaechi with other top leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) carried out a Salvation Rally ahead the 2015 general elections. The rally ended at the Police Headquarters in Abuja where the party leaders condemned the impunity of the Federal Government in disobeying court orders.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Amaechi said, “Today all of us must decide as a nation whether we will allow the president to continue to disobey court orders. The court has said that he should give the Speaker his police and his SSS and the president has disobeyed. Today, the President must tell us why our brothers and sisters are dying in Bornu, Yobe and Adamawa and they are enjoying in Abuja.
The Rivers governor went on to say that the APC will resist rigging in next your general elections and will forum a parallel government if the elections are not conducted transparently.
Responding to comments trailing Governor Amaechi’s speech at the APC rally in Abuja, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari submitted that the governors remark has been taken out of contest. In the words of Mrs Semenitari, “I know that these are times when everyones nerve is on edge, but maybe we can pause and really reflect of what Governor Amaechi actually did say. His point was that in a free and fair election all parties would feel satisfied that having done their best the people have made a decision and therefore everyone must abide by it, but where the election and the process are tainted and evidently skewered or rigged to subvert the people’s will then, the people would have to rise to defend their votes. The Rivers Information Commissioner maintained that Governor Amaechi is not first person to have made such a call considering the fact that similar incident had occurred in the South West shortly after Babangida administration cancelled June 12, 1993 elections.
Semenitari emphasized that there was nothing inciting about the governor’s statement, and called on well-meaning citizens to disregard any misconstrued view from the issue.
On Thursday, Special Assistant to Governor Amaechi on students matters, Comrade Mathew Osika disclosed that the state government has started paying students bursary. Though, the exercise has been marred with poor data provision by beneficiaries, Osika stated that all modalities have been put inplace to check hiccups.
Osika blamed students for the few hitches witnessed since the exercise began, urging them to provide accurate data to the banks to enable them access their stipends.
According to the governors aide on students matters, over 8,000 students from various tertiary institutions of learning have been paid. He assured those who have not received theirs to be patient as the exercise was still in process.
Also last week, Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Emma Chinda excoriated the former Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike over comment concerning the ceded Soku Oilwells, Chinda lambasted the People Demoratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant for failing to say the truth over the oil wells even when he was in Amaechi administration.
“Wike should desist from playing politics of calumny and to show genuine support to Kalabari to return their oil well, Chinda said.

Don’t Risk Your Legacy, Citizen Begs Jonathan Against 2027 Presidential Race
In a letter titled, “An Open Letter to Former President Goodluck Jonathan,” the observer said Dr Jonathan should be careful not to allow himself to be drawn into partisan calculations driven by ambition rather than national interest.
He cautioned the former president against allowing himself to be used by what he described as desperate political interests.
“I believe this is the time to protect the good name and legacy you have built over the years. You should not allow yourself to be used by desperate political elements who may be more interested in their own ambitions than in the future of Nigeria,” the letter read.
The Social Commentator further warned Dr Jonathan to be wary of those advocating for his comeback, claiming many of them were previously opposed to his administration.
“Many of those calling for your return today were your antagonists, those who frustrated your government back then. You should be careful not to become a pawn in a game designed by others or else they will stain your white with their ‘roforofo’,” he said.
He maintained that Dr Jonathan’s legacy remains defined by his decision to concede defeat in 2015, which he described as a landmark moment in Nigeria’s democratic history.
“Your legacy was built through years of public service and your decision to put the country’s peace above personal ambition at a critical moment in Nigeria’s history. That legacy should not be put at risk because of the desperation of a few politicians,” he added.
Mr Adenuga also alleged that some of the promoters of Dr Jonathan’s return have lost credibility in the public space.
“The truth is that some of the people pushing you to contest have already damaged their own reputations. They should not be allowed to stain your legacy with their soiled hands. What they could not achieve on their own should not be pursued through your name and goodwill,” he stressed.
He concluded by urging the former president to remain above political manoeuvring and protect his place in history.
“History has been kind to you. Preserve that honour and remain above the political games of those who want to use your name for their own purposes,” he wrote.
Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Kabiru Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a special convention held in Abuja, where delegates ratified his nomination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
