Rivers CP Synergises With NUJ Against Crime
Rivers State Police Command has assured that the on-going assault on criminals in the state would not be compromised, and called on members of the media to support the force to enable it achieve effective policing and crime fighting in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature stated this when officers of the Command paid a courtesy visit on the state leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Bature said the visit was to solicit the continued support from journalists and promote the needed synergy in crime fighting in the state.
He acknowledged the existing cordial relationship between members of the fourth estate of the realm and the police before his assumption of office as the Police boss in the state adding that there was need for such relationship to be improved upon.
According to him, it is the paramount responsibility of any government to provide security for its citizen noting that without security and peace, no society can move forward.
“We have the responsibility to provide security for the people of the state. Rivers State is strategic to the nation. The brief I had when I was posted to the state seven weeks ago, was to ensure that the people of the state have confidence on the ability of the Nigeria Police to secure and guarantee their safety”, he stated.
“My main purpose of being here today is to guarantee the people and residents of the state of their security. I have also seen the state of their security. I have also been briefed of the happenings especially now that we are at the light of the political era, the police in the state has the capacity of achieving such”, he stated.
The State Police boss declared that the command has zero tolerance for criminal activities and promised a level playing field for all the political parties during the forthcoming general elections.
He urged journalists in the state to assist and work with the Police in this regard.
In his remark, the State NUJ Chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo thanked the Police Commissioner for finding time to visit the council adding that he was the first Police boss to visit the Council in six years.
Dokubo stated that the Police and the Journalists had common features in their job responsibilities and assured of the continued support and cooperation of journalists in the state.
He applauded the Police boss on his numerous achievements within his short period in office and solicited for the protection of journalists during the forthcoming general elections in the state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
