Rivers Guber: PDP Aspirants Demand Wike’s Disqualification

The sixteen aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirants from Rivers State, have called on the national leadership of the party to disqualify the former Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, from the 2015 governorship race.
The aspirants at a press briefing in Abuja last Wednesday, accused Wike of compromising the entire process of the last ward congress in the state.
The aggrieved aspirants asked the members of the National Working Committee of the party to, as a matter of urgency, “cancel the flawed Rivers ward delegate elections,” adding that If their demand was not met, they would seek redress in court.
The aspirants at the briefing were Major Lancelot Ayanya , Mr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, Mr. Bernard Mikko, Prof. Don Baridam, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Prof. Israel Owate, Mr. Gabriel Pidomson and Abieatedoghu Bob-Abbey.
Others were Senator Lee Maeba, Mr. Nimi Walson-Jack, Capt. Nwankwo Sunday (rtd.), Mr. Oseleye Ojuka, Chief Pawriso Samuel, Mr. Sampson Ngerebara, Dr. Silva Opusunju, Mr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja and Prince Tonye Princewill.
They signed a statement which was read by their leader, Owate. The statement read in part, “We call on the NWC of the PDP to cancel the flawed Rivers State ward delegate elections. That Wike should be disqualified as a governorship aspirant for compromising and corrupting the processes leading to the ward delegate elections and bringing the PDP to disrepute in Rivers State and the nation.
“We call on the NWC of the PDP to invoke its constitutional powers as provided in part viii section 5, sub section 5 (2)(e) of the PDP constitution as amended to dissolve the docile and incompetent two-man Rivers State working committee and appoint a care-taker committee to run the party until another executive committee is elected,” they said.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
