RSSDA Boss Harps On SMEs
The Executive Director of
the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), Mr Noble Pepple has described the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as vital tool for poverty reduction in Nigeria.
Mr Pepple said this at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Rivers State in Port Harcourt.
He also said that the overall growth of the economy would also be determined by the number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The Executive Director however acknowledged the challenges the sector was facing in the country to include, poor infrastructure, managerial and technical skills, poor access to finance unfriendly regulatory and business environment amongst others.
He however said that, these challenges could be addressed through innovative and workable measures.
In his words, these challenges are at different levels, individuals, micro and micro and all have to be addressed through simple but determined innovative and workable measures, he said.
Mr People listed some programmes initiated by RSSDA to boost small and medium enterprises in the state such as grassroot millionaires scheme, pitu leather entrepreneurs scheme, the Promise Restaurant Franchise scheme and Agricultural Entrepreneurs Scheme. He said that these schemes hard helped to improve the economy of Rivers State thereby reducing poverty.
Mr Pepple also said that the association had a vital role to play in the growth of the economy stressing that the success of the economy would depend on the manufacturing sector.
“That is why the activities of this association continues to renew hope for the future of our developing economy, he said.
