Onne Customs Rakes In N16.6bn
The Nigeria Customs
Service (NCS) Area 11, Port Harcourt, Onne, Rivers State has raked in over N16.6 billion within the months of July and August 2014.
A breakdown of the figure showed that in the month of July, the command generated N7.9 billion while N8.7 billion was collected in the month of August this year.
The officer-in- charge of the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), Onne Customs Command, Peter Kolo disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in his office at Onne, Rivers State recently.
Kolo said the improved revenue generation was a result of the effective checks and alertness of officers of the unit, adding that since the resumption of the new Acting Customs Area Controller, Hamzat Gummi barely 100 days ago, there had been strict enforcement of physical examination, gate surveillance and effective monitoring.
According to him, “The Customs Intelligence Unit engage in daily intelligence reports aimed at checking and alerting discrepancies of any act as a corrective measure for more revenue generation to the federal coffers”.
He reiterated that the proactive checks of activities at the Port including the sheds and gate had also contributed to the realisation of the amount, pointing out that, “The co-operative attitudes of sheds and gate officers in accordance with customs Intelligence Unit(CIU) alerts are commendable”.
The officer-in-charge of the unit also noted with joy that the co-operation and compliance of the agents, importers and the stakeholders had improved within the period under review, stressing that the Onne Customs Command is leaving no stone unturned with the mission and vision of the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko Inde on improved revenue generation.
It would be recalled that Deputy Comptroller Hamzat Gummi was appointed Acting Customs Area Controller, Area 11, Onne Port, Rivers State on July 6, 2014.
