NBCC Set To Partner NEPC Boost Exports
The Nigerian-British Cham
ber of Commerce (NBCC) is set to partner with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to explore new initiatives to boost Nigeria exports to United Kingdom.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, NBCC President, Prince Yemi Adefulu, said there was low level of penetration of the country’s products into the UK market despite the huge demand and ready markets of such Nigerian products.
Adefulu said stakeholders and members of NBCC would address the key challenges of poor value chain management in the export business and lack of a clear government policy between the two countries of Nigeria and United Kingdom.
He said there was need for stakeholders collaboration for synergy between the two countries for effective strategy implementation and incentivised manufacturing to create more market opportunities.
The NBCC boss further explained that increasing market penetration would require stakeholders to look into issues of compliance of export products with international standards, capacity building initiatives for exporters and incentivised, production for small businesses.
He explained that Nigeria had a large population in United Kingdom for its huge products to create the needed jobs.
The chamber boss added that Nigerians needed to get rid of the get rich quick mentality which the oil boom syndrome created and bestowed.
He said government should remains consistent in supporting and protecting businesses in the international markets through commitment in international trade.
Also speaking, NEPC Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Awolowo said Nigeria has a yearly growth potential of 7.1 per cent if non oil export is exploited.
He explained that challenges encountered by exporters were recurrent in the solid minerals and agricultural sub sector, stressing that such challenges could be addressed through strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and procedures.
Awolowo said NEPC was working with other international regulators to simplify the export processes and remove bottlenecks in trade.
He said NEPC was ever ready to partner with any chamber of commerce to promote the non-oil export of the country.
