Activist Blames Electoral Malpractices On Ignorance

man Rights activist, Mr. Anyakwe Nsirimovu has blamed ignorance on the part of the masses as factor responsible for the electoral malpractices in the Niger Delta.
Mr. Nsirimovu who is the Director, Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian law also said that there would be no more writings of results in bedrooms during the 2015 elections in Rivers State.
Speaking on the topic, “The Church , the ballot and good governance, expectations for 2015”, organised by the Men’s Missionary Union of First Baptist Church Aggrey Road as part of its Annual August Seminar 2014, he said that the 2015 elections would see competition among the various political parties in the state.
Nsirimovu also urged the voters to see the forth-coming elections as opportunity to correct the mistakes of previous years by voting for credible leaders.
According to him, the only way the expectations of the electorates can be met in 2015 is by voting for credible candidates irrespective of tribal and religious inclinations.
Mr. Nsirimovu also charged Christian denominations to conscientise their people to the path of righteousness during and after elections, noting that the seminar should serve as a challenge for them to search their consciences by taking steps that would improve the society.
“This is the time for self-examination. Your votes, your rights”, he said.
The Activist called on the participants of the seminar to carry the message of liberation to their communities, stressing that people must liberate themselves from bad governance which had resulted to massive poverty in the land.
He also commended the Men’s Missionary Union of the church for choosing the topic and urged other churches to do so.
Earlier the, President means Missionary Union (MMU) of First Baptist Church Aggrey road Port Harcourt, Dr. Karibi George said that the annual August seminar was part of the activities of the union to enlighten members on contemporary issues in the society.
Mr. George said that the topic for this year was choosen in view of the forth-coming elections.
