Monarch, Son Die In Auto Crash
The Obi of Issele-Uku
in Delta State, Henry Ezeagwunam and his son, Sunny Ofili, Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Information and Communication Technology, were killed in an accident at Utulu, along the Asaba – Benin Expressway last Saturday.
They were burnt to death after the Sport Utility Vehicle driven by the traditional ruler rammed into a truck (Edo FUG 238 XA) loaded with gravel and burst into flames at about 3.pm.
Eyewitnesses said Ofili was on the passenger seat. The rear tyres of the truck were deflated as a result of the impact of the SUV which was totally burnt.
Rescue teams led by the Federal Road Safety Corps made frantic effort to remove the burnt bodies that were trapped in the SUV. They had hectic time controlling traffic on the expressway as there was a huge gridlock after the accident.
Ofili, who was aspiring to contest the state House of Assembly election to represent Aniocha North constituency, was said to have monitored the Peoples Democratic Party primary election in his council area before embarking on the journey with the monarch.
