Borno Moves To Overhaul El-Kanemi
The Borno State
Government plans to overhaul the El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club following its unimpressive outing so far in the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), an official has said.
The state’s Commissioner for Sports, Isa Buratai told newsmen in Maiduguri that government was not satisfied with the club’s performance in the league.
“We are planning to overhaul the team by recruiting new players ahead of the second stanza of the league. “The target is to make sure that we accomplish our goal of finishing among the best by the end of the season,’’ he said.
Buratai however blamed the Maiduguri-based club’s unimpressive outing on the temporary relocation of the team to Kano by the League Management Company (LMC) due to the Boko Haram insurgency.
He said the state government had approved the release of funds for the payment of players and technical officials’ entitlements.
“Gov. Kashim Shettima has approved the immediate payment of all entitlements of members of the team, including the players and technical crew.
“We are expecting the release of the money soon, so that we can pay them,’’ Buratai said.
