2015: INEC Promises Credible Polls, Vows To Be Best In Africa
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says the commission is prepared to be the best election body in Africa by improving on previous lapses ahead of the general election in 2015.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Prof Chukwuemeka Onukaogu stated this in Awka during the visit of America Ambassador, Mr James Entwistle to Anambra INEC office.
The REC said that Anambra State was used to test-run a successful electoral process and that the improved governorship election witnessed in Ekiti State was the improvement of lapses discovered during Anambra governorship election.
Onukaogu said that INEC was ready and applying every positive ideology to improve on its services to ensure that the goal of achieving a credible free and fair elections was achieved at all election in the country.
“As an election management body, we are determined in spite of the enormous challenges we face to be one of the most commended and sought for election management body in Africa and the rest of the world”, he said
He said that INEC was more prepared to give an election that would remain a signpost in Nigerian future elections, saying that although the outcome of the election in Ekiti has been judged as at least 95% perfect, more improved election process would be witnessed in the general election.
“In the general election come 2015, the people’s will and votes will count and it must be respected”, he said.
Responding, the United States Amabarrssdor to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle commended INEC in the work of creating good voter education through its various programme and awareness.
Entwistle said that the US would partner with INEC to ensure achievement of credible and fair elections in Nigeria.
