The Rivers State Govern
ment has restated its commitment to the training and retaining of civil servants in the state to improve productivity.
The Permanent Secretary, Establishments, Training and Pension Bureau in the Office of the Head Service, Mr Asoelu Gaymos Oyo said this while declaring open a two-week refresher course for confirmation/promotion for clerical and sub-clerical officers in Port Harcourt, organised by the Bureau to expose the officers to the rules and regulations of the service.
The Permanent Secretary stressed the importance of the course and urged the officers to be serious with their training programme.
According to him, the participants would be required to pass their examination at the end of the course in order to confirm their appointment in the service and their promotion to their next salary grade level.
Oyo said that apart from gaining promotion, the course would enable the staff to know all about the service and also update their knowledge about the service with a view to enhancing their efficiency.
In her speech, the Acting Director of Management Service Department in the Establishments, Training and Pension Bureau, Mrs Philomina Nwakaego Uchennah said that the course was organised to prepare staff for the confirmation and promotion examination for clerical and sub-clerical cadre in the state civil service.
Uchenna also warned against lateness and absenteeism during the course, emphasising that any staff who did not meet the required attendance would not be allowed to sit for the examination.
