NDLEA Nabs Nursing Mother, 21 Others In Bayelsa
Operatives of the National
Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested a 35-year old nursing mother, Tari Reuben, and 21 others, suspected to be drug peddlers in Yenagoa,Bayelsa State, with cannabis sativa
Parading the suspects before journalists in Yenagoa, the State Commandant, Mr Frank Hanacho said the mother of five was a dealer on the product, adding that areas such as Ovom,Azikoro and Imiringi axis of the state capital were notorious locations for drug peddling activities.
While parading Reuben and six other suspects with cannabis weighing 34.64kgs, Hanacho said the arrests were effected in October.
According to him, seven suspects were arrested at Adagbabiri, Sagbama Local Government ,Azikoro village, Agudama and Yenagoa in the state, saying that subtle methods were applied to identify notorious areas before effecting the arrests.
Among the suspects were 15 males and six females, whom he said would soon be arraigned in court.
Other suspects paraded by the agency include Felix Odalonu arrested with 4kg cannabis, Simeon Obru(4.8kgs),Umaru Mohammed(14.4kgs),Asenitiya College(9.9kgs),Yoto Seibokuro (100 grams) and Penny Gillet(300 grams.).
He said, ”there is drug problem in the state. We need a collective effort to curb this problem. The suspects were arrested in different locations. It is regrettable that a suspect kept 14 kgs of cannabis in a residential building. Once you are caught, you cannot escape arrest. Females are not exempted. It is a multiplier effect, once we arrest one woman, the children suffer at home.”
The Commandant warned landlords accommodating drug peddlers in their buildings that they would have those properties sealed up by the agency, adding that the agency was empowered by law to seal up such properties.
Speaking to journalists, Tari Reuben, claimed that she was single- handedly taking care of her children from the proceeds of the cannabis business while Yoto Seibokuro ,claimed he joined the business due to joblessness, saying, “ I prefer it to stealing or robbery”
