RSG Woos Investor On Fish, Livestock Feeds Production
The Rivers State Gov
ernment says, any investment in the production of fish and livestock feeds in the state will yield maximum return on investment, and therefore a good business portfolio to explore.
The permanent secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart, who said this while declaring open a sensitisation seminar for fish farmers on the new fish feeds, said that the government was ready to cooperate with investors in the production of fish and livestock feeds.
Dr. Hart said that the new fish feeds produced by an American Company was cost effective as well as rich in nutrients.
He said that the product will boost fish production in the state, thereby, translating to improved wellbeing for farmers.
Represented by the Director, Fisheries, Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Daniel Ogbumgbada, also said that the ministry was desirous of ensuring that all fish farmers in the state have access to the product to boost fish production.
The permanent secretary also advised the farmers to make the best use of the opportunity to improve their wellbeing.
Also speaking, the representative of Cargill Animal Nutrition Limited, Mr. Sunday Olarenwaju Johnson, said that the introduction of the new product to the Nigerian market was part of the move to complement government’s effort in the production of fish in the country.
Johnson, said that the programme will help farmers to increase their contribution to the agricultural sector of the economy as well as provide gainful employment to unemployed youth in the country.
According to him, the programme, which started in the south western part of Nigeria, will be replicated in the entire country.
More than 2,000 farmers attended the seminar, which held at the Port Harcourt City Council Hall, Port Harcourt.
