FRSC Renews Threat To Prosecute Erring Drivers
The FRSC Zonal
Command in Benin, last Tuesday said erring drivers would be arrested and prosecuted during the‘ ember months’ period, even as it warned its officers against compromising their office.
The Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO), Mr Nseobong Akpabio, gave the warning during a zonal meeting organised for sector commanders, and senior officers including special Marshals preparatory to the flag-off of the ember months safety campaign.
Akpabio, whose command comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra respectively, announced Sunday as the date for the flag-off of the “Ember Months safety campaign in the zone’ ’.
The Zonal commander said that the focus of the meeting was to adopt measures aimed at reducing speed limit violation, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking and making use of the cell phone while driving.
He said that the command had identified the Asaba-Benin –Onistha, Benin-Auchi-Okene and Benin-Ore Lagos Corridors as prone to road crashes especially during festive periods.
Akpabio, therefore, said that “the command would at the flag-off of the campaign, deploy 13 patrol vehicles with 85
FRSC operatives to man these corridors till the end of the yuletide season.
He said that any erring driver, irrespective of the offender, would be arrested and prosecuted.
Akpabio, therefore, warned officers against compromising their position saying that “there will be reward for hard working officers as well as sanction for erring officers.’’
He said that the command had constituted a monitoring team to ensure that “the right things are done a all times.’
’ Akpabio said that “to achieve the desire result, the command in carrying out its mandate will collaborate with sister organisations, the media and the Judiciary.’’
The Zonal commander, therefore, urged all sectors and unit heads to ensure that their operational vehicles were in good condition.
