Coach Harps On Regular Payment For Player
Coach Augustine
Odumo of the Jigawa female volleyball team on Tuesday in Dutse urged the state government to increase players’ allowances and ensure their prompt payment.
Odumo made the call after his team defeated the Plateau female team in three straight sets of 25-22, 25-13, 25-15.
The win was in the opening match of the 2013 Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF) competition holding at the Dutse Sports Complex.
The coach told Tidesports that the gesture would motivate the players to play harder and win prizes for the state in other competitions.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to the state government to increase the allowances of the players, so as to motivate them to play more,’’ he said.
Odumo said his team’s victory over their Plateau counterparts was as a result of hard work, team work and the players’ experience.
“Our victory was due to the fact that our players are experienced ones. They are well-trained and have known each other for a long period of time,’’ he said.
The coach said the team was 100 per cent ready to win the competition, adding that both the players and the team management were ready to beat any team.
“I am assuring the government and people of Jigawa that as an experienced and national coach, I will do my best to see that we win the competition,’ Odumo said.
He, however, urged the players to justify their earnings by playing well to make the state proud at the end of the competition.
