LMC Braces Up For Hitch-Free Season Run-In
Only outstanding
referees will officiate in the remaining matches of the ongoing 2012/2013 Globacom Premier League, the League Management Company (LMC) said last week.
The LMC Secretary, Tunji Babalola told newsmen that this had become necessary because the league had entered the crucial stage.
He said that the LMC took the decision together with the Nigerian Football Association.
“ We are more determined now to experience no hitches.
“This is the stage where some clubs will be relegated and the eventual champions will emerge.
“For all these to be fairly achieved, the two bodies have agreed that only very competent referees will officiate in the remaining matches.
“It is an assurance that only clubs that deserve to be champions that will come out victorious at the end of the league,’’ Babalola said.
The secretary appealed to club supporters to desist from intimidating match officials.
“The supporters should adhere to this warning because this is not good for the development of our league.
“Do not take laws into your hands by attacking match officials. Let the LMC give the appropriate sanctions,’’ he said.
He appealed to clubs and supporters to accept the outcome of league matches in good faith.
“I am appealing to clubs to take match results as they come; whether you win or lose, it is part of the game.
“It is possible to have a violent-free game, and we are looking forward to that time when clubs will begin to embrace it,’’ he said. Babalola also appealed to club owners to take the welfare of players and coaches serious.
“The LMC cannot dictate to club owners how to run their affairs, but we can encourage and set up a standard for them,’’ he told newsmen. He added that club owners should fulfil their promises to players and technical crew for smooth operations.
