FG Pledges Improved Electricity Supply, Inaugurates New Stations
T
he Federal Government
on Wednesday restated its determination to improve electricity generation and supply in the country.
The Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Mr. Abiodunolotu, gave the commitment during the inauguration of three National Integrated Power Project distribution sub-stations under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
The new 1/15MVA 33/11KV sub-stations are located at Owode Estate, Apata; Olunde, Ona-Ara in Oluyole Local Government area of Oyo State; and Ikirun Road, Osogbo, Osun State.
Olotu said the new facilities would boost power supply in areas under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
These bring to five the number of projects inaugurated out of the 33 conceived under the National Integrated Power Project.
Olotu said the remaining 28, which are 70 to 90 per cent completed, would be inaugurated and handed over by the end of the year.
“The facility would supply more quality power to the residents. Before now, the existing transformers were overloaded and faraway from communities. This will further improve the social lives of the people,” he added.
The NDPHC boss urged the host communities to cooperate with the contractors, saying, “Some of our contractors were chased away, especially from Olodo, Lagelu Local Government of Oyo State. The power plants being handled by NDPHC are expected to contribute 5,000 megawatts to the national grid when completed.”
