A Clarion Call To Rivers People
Our good people of Rivers State, we greet you all. We have this message to pass. That God bless Rivers State. The abundant unsolicited human/material resources abound in this state are divine gifts for our self development. This development you all know, is a collective responsibility achievable only on peaceful and harmonious environment. But we must realize that in our collective pursuance of this development friction is bound to occur. This friction if well managed, enhances better understanding, cooperation and total commitment to state building. But if turned to a pellate of ‘war fare’, ends in breach of peace and harmony and eventually self destruction. This you wouldn’t, at all, wish to happen. So we draw your attention to the current unhealthy political situation in the state.
About six years ago, this divine blessing brought governor Rotimi Amaechi to the helm of affairs of this blessed state. Although previous state leaders tried their best, governor Amaechi opens the float-gate of development in contemporary development era. Rivers State becomes a construction site of various development projects and programs so numerous and obvious around the state, in amazing state transformation. The various road constructions – completed and ungoing, the completed schools and hospital projects, the numerous empowerment programs are just a few of the numerous grand achievements of governor Amaechi’ s administration. These sincerely, are obvious and undeniable and we all are his witnesses as we have variously and eloquently appreciated same. Yet governor Amaechi is not done.
In the course of these great achievements, we hope, governor Amaechi has not flouted any administrative principle, as the state legislature has not indicted him once.
But suddenly, criticisms upon criticisms began to set in. Initially, as a fine work of the opposition to guide governance, but latter terminates in what could be a game of vendetta and tending towards mudslinging. A very tense and ugly political situation in the state ensues.
Ground-shaking allegations upon allegations generating great waves against governor Amaechi and his administration’s integrity are currently in vogue. But thanks to the excellent arsenal of the very competent information/communication ministry of the state, facts upon facts have been adduced that present the ground-shaking allegations as spurious. The basis of this degree of friction beats our imagination.
Could the widely appreciated achievements of governor Amaechi’s administration provoke jealousy in simple minds and constitute a challenge to immediate successors in the next decades? Or could it be a vindictive resolve to frustrate governor Amaechi’s journey to total state transformation, least he lives, for the Guines Book of Records, a shoe, at the end of tenure, that fits no immediate successors?
Or still, could governor Amaechi be a victim of political intrigue packaged to rubbish him and truncate his creditable journey to new model Rivers State? What ever it is, the current unhealthy political situation in the state, in fact, calls for utmost attention and action to save the state the current peace/harmony.
Governor Amaechi who we eloquently appreciate has performed creditably well. He has not disappointed us in governance delivery which is the prime and only obligation he owes to us.
Therefore, the current tense political situation in the state, in fact, calls for utmost concern and action. We MUST not be complacent and witness the wheel of development, ongoing, in the state grind to a halt on the alter of political friction.
So we say arise, all lords, our elder statesmen; Bishops, Rev. Fathers, pastors, traditional rules, all arise. Our Hon politicians both in and outside the state, professors, students, civil servants, youths, distinguish men/women, traders, please arise to participate in any way possible, to peacefully resolve this unnecessary ‘war’ that may disrupt existing peace and harmony in the state and distract the focus on determined journey to state transformation, sustenance and consolidation.
