FRSC Arrests 188 Traffic Violators, 78 Convicted
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Delta, says it has apprehended 188 persons for traffic violations and secured conviction against 78 others at its mobile court.
The Sector Commander in the state, Mr Ford Oti, who said this on Friday at the beginning of the second phase of the sector’s ”operation shield” in Agbor, explained that 80 were charged to court but 78 were convicted while 105 offenders were cautioned and freed.
He said that the exercise took place in Asaba, Agbor and Issele-Uku.
According to him, the success of the first round of enlightenment programme prompted the sector to embark on the second phase.
He said that the essence of the exercise was to reduce crashes on the Benin-Asaba highway or “even record zero incidents in the accident-prone areas”.
In his remarks, the Assistant Corps Marshal, Zone 5, Mr Wole Olaniran, said that the common offences among road users, especially commercial drivers, included excessive speeding, over-loading and dangerous over-taking.
He advised road users to be more cautious while plying the highway to avert crashes.
