Nigeria May Lose Player To Belgium
Nigeria may be on the verge of losing teenage goalscoring sensation Imoh Ezekiel following the player’s disclosure of his intention to obtain Belgian citizenship to enable feature for the European nation at international level.
The Belgian press has been agog with news of Ezekiel’s intention to switch nationality and further revelations have disclosed that the Standard Liege striker rejected an invitation from coach John Obuh to play for Nigeria at the recent African Youth Championship in Algeria, and is set to reject future invitations to play for Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
It was further revealed that Ezekiel plans not to return to Nigeria during the summer break in order to avoid being pressured to play for Nigeria.
The 19-year-old is Standard Liege’s top scorer this season with 15 goals in 25 games in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
