C’River Explains Talents Hunt
Director of Sports, Cross River State Sports Commission, Jude Amadi, has said that the state’s ongoing talent-hunt programme was aimed at discovering athletes, especially wrestlers for the National Sports Festival.
The 19th edition of the festival, tagged “Paradise Games 2014” will be hosted by Cross River in Calabar.
Amadi told Tidesports that wrestling contests were being held across the local governments in the state and that the wrestlers discovered would be camped for the biennial games.
“What we are doing at the moment is that we are embarking on a talent-hunt programme in wrestling to help discover wrestlers for the festival.
“Being the host of the next edition of the festival, we want to ensure that we discover the best wrestlers.
“By the time we have discovered them, we will camp them and prepare them effectively for the festival,” he said.
He noted that plans were ongoing to organise training for its elite wrestlers in the various weight categories to help develop and enhance their careers.
Amadi added that it was also a measure to prepare the wrestlers for the national championship holding in the second quarter of the year.
“Plans are on ground to ensure that we organise training for our elite wrestlers in the different weight categories as a way of developing them.
“This is also part of preparation for the national championship which is coming up in the second quarter of the year,” he said.
