Customs Boss Assures Officers Of Adequate Healthcare
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, last Thursday assured men and officers of the service of adequate health care.
Dikko made the promise during his visit to Apapa Area 1 Customs Command in Lagos.
He said he would provide well-equipped hospitals in all customs commands in 2013, while commending the officers’ efforts in generating targeted revenue in 2012.
The comptroller general urged the officers to work harder to meet management’s expectations, adding that President Goodluck Jonathan had given the service the “trust” to take over Destination Inspection at the ports.
The Controller of Apapa Command, Mr Muhammed Umaru, said officers of the command would take the advice of the comptroller general on revenue generation.
“If you go round Apapa, you’ll notice changes and we promise to meet up the expectations.
“We have an increase of 13 per cent in our revenue this year compared to last year,’’ Umaru said.
Mrs. Onyebuchi Okoli, the Area Controller of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, said the comptroller general’s visit had shown that he was a good administrator.
Mr. Willy Egbundin, Comptroller of Lilypond Command, said that because of the assurance of the comptroller general, the officers of the command would do their best, stressing that “to whom much is given, much is also expected’’.
Our correspondent reports that the Controller general visited other commands like Tin Can, Ports and Terminal Multi-Services Ltd..
Meanwhile, during a protest by some clearing agents, Mrs Bala James, a clearing agent asked the comptroller general to compel Mrs Jeny Shoboiki, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs at Tin-Can Port, to stop delaying cargo clearance procedures.
Dikko assured the agents that he would investigate the matter, adding that he would make sure that changes were effected as soon as possible.
Our correspondent reports that the comptroller general also paid condolence visit to family of the late Retired Gen. Andrew Azazi.
