The Rivers State Government has presented a cheque of N10 million to the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) 2012 and a quarter-finalist in the “Miss Universe” contest recently held in China, Queen Damiete Charles Granville.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in her office in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, said the gesture was part of the government’s effort towards supporting young people to realise their potentials and make them achievers.
Mrs Semenitari said that the state government not only supported Miss Damiete Charles Granville, in the Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria (MBGN) 2012 contest and on her trip to China, but also provided the drugs and publicity during a de-warming exercise which she carried out in some communities in the state.
The commissioner who advised the beauty queen to be serious with her educational pursuit, also assured her of the administration’s support.
Responding, Miss Damiete Charles Granville thanked the state government for the support and encouragement on her pet project and assured that she would use the opportunity offered by her reign to assist the less privileged in the society.
She also used the occasion to announce plan for a medical outreach in Abonnema.
Also speaking the beauty queen’s mother, Adaba Charles Granville thanked the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for his support during their bereavement.
