Secretariat Complex To Get Facelift
The Rivers State Secretariat Complex will soon wear a new look as efforts are being made to improve the aesthetic of the work environment.
Head of Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn gave the hint on Tuesday while speaking to newsmen shortly after undertaking an inspection tour of ongoing work in the Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
He assured workers of a clean and healthy environment comparable to any standard work environment in any part of the world and advised staff and those doing business in the complex as well as visitors to always imbibe the culture of cleanliness by refraining from littering and walk on clearly designated walk ways.
The Head of Service, however, expressed disgust at the attitude of those in charge of cleaning the premises, especially those in charge of Block B which he described as the dirtiest Block in the complex and urged them to step up their efforts or be shown the way out.
He also directed that interlocking blocks be extended to the Building housing the Local Government Service Commission, opening of blocked drainages, planting of flowers and re-grassing of some areas in the premises as well as placement of more trash cans in strategic positions in the Secretariat complex.
Barrister LongJohn, who assumed office as Head of Service in October, 2012, has
since embarked on numerous projects aimed at improving the work environment, welfare and service delivery capacity of workers and undertakes a weekly inspection tour of offices and premises in the Secretariat Complex with a view to identifying areas that needed urgent attention and improvement.
The Head of Service was accompanied on the tour by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Mr. Lambert Ekwueme, the Director, Special Services, Mrs.
Josephine Chukwugwe and other Heads of Department.
