Police Free Abducted Female Corps Members
The Rivers State Police Command says five female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) abducted last Friday at the NYSC transit camp Iriebe, have regained their freedom.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam, in a statement said that gang of seven robbers stormed the NYSC transit camp at about 0230 hrs and gained access through damaged fence.
DSP Ugwuegbulam further said that the bandits carted away cell phones, laptops and undisclosed amount of monies belonging to the youth corps.
According to him, the Oyigbo Police Division on receiving the information mobilised and gave the hoodlums a hot chase, adding that the hoodlums abandoned the corpers as the police closed on them and disappeared into a bush at Egbelu, Oyigbo West axis.
He disclosed that some of the youth corpers who sustained minor injuries were taken to Salem Hospital where they were treated, adding that no casualty was recorded during the operation.
He said that investigation was in progress to arrest the fleeing suspects with a view to recovering the stolen items, while assuring residents of the state of the readiness of the command to combat crime during the yuletide.
