Cleric Advises FG On Ecological, Environmental Problems
The leadership of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rivers district has enjoined the Federal Government to be proactive in redressing ecological and environmental challenges in the country.
Speaking on the backdrop of the unprecedented spate of flooding prevalent in some states of the country, including Rivers and Bayelsa States, the Rivers District Superintendent, Rev. Daddy Dabipi Ibulubo said that though the dimension of floods experienced this year were unexpected, government at all levels, religious and corporate organizations and individuals should pool resources together to ameliorate the plight of the victims.
Reverend Ibulubo, in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt noted that the plight of the affected people some of whom are in refugee camps goes beyond provision of palliatives for short-term remedial measure.
According to the District Superintendent, the Federal Government and relevant agencies should strive to mitigate the consequences of natural disasters across the country and exploit available windows to stem a reoccurrence.
The man of God who decried the occurrence also urged Federal, State and Local Governments to give preference to agriculture as according to him, the flooding, was likely to affect farm produce next year.
Dr. Ibulubo, however, enjoined traders on food items not to see the unfortunate natural disaster as a window to maximize profit at the expense of the citizenry, noting that it required collaborative efforts to address the multi-dimensional challenges the country is faced.
He conveyed the empathy of the District presbytery, clergy and laity of the Assemblies of God Nigeria to the President of the country, Dr. Goodluck Jonatha, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and other governments and people affected by the unfortunate incident.
The victims, the man of God said should take solace in the fact that God identifies with human challenges and offers a way out when he is taken into confidence.
He wants the populace to avoid activities that are likely to increase the risk of ecological and environmental degradation and the attendant hazards.
