PHALGA, ASALGA Win Governor’s Cup
The second edition of the Rivers State Governor’s Cup Debate
competition has been concluded with Port Harcourt City Council (PHALGA) and
Asari Trou Local Government area (ASALGA) emerging winners for senior and
junior secondary schools categories respectively.
In the Senior Secondary category, PHALGA came first with 672
pints, Obio/Akpor local government area emerged second with 639 points while
Gokana local government area took third position with 229 points.
While in the junior secondary category, ASALGA grapped first
position with 527 points, Oyigbo local government area, second with 426 points
and Ikwerre local government area took third with 209 points.
Speaking at the event which held at the Model Primary
School, Elekahia, in Port Harcourt, Mrs Stella Wige, who represented the
Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi, expressed satisfaction
with the students’ performance.
She said the performance of the students at the competition
showed that the investment in education in Rivers State by the Governor,
Chibuike Amaechi so far was yielding positive results.
She noted that the Ministry of Education would start
preparing the students ahead aof national debate competitions.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Rivers State Universal basic
Education Board (SUBEB), Sir Alli Oruitemeka, stated that the competiton was
getting better and better every time with the performace of the students.
