NDE Vows To Tackle Unemployment
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it will
continue to fight unemployment in the country by empowering the teeming
unemployed youth with entrepreneurial skills.
NDE Coordinator in Anambra, Mr Mike Mbata, gave the assurance in an interview with our
correspondent in Awka.
He said that the NDE had trained 50 unemployed youths in the
state on how to build solar energy as an alternative source of electricity.
Mbata disclosed that
40 graduates had been attached to various organisations to acquire cognate
experience, pointing out that for this year 2012 in Anambra, the NDE has
trained 50 unemployed youths on how to harness solar energy as a source of
alternative energy.
“Another 40 graduates were also engaged and posted to
organisations that require their services to acquire cognate experience under
the Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP),” Mbata said.
He noted that the directorate was seeking collaboration with
the office of the wife of the state governor, Mrs Margaret Obi and other
Non-Governmental Organisations to implement the “Lady Chauffeur Training
Scheme” in the state.
“Under the scheme, we are planning to train women for two
months using standard training institutes accredited by the Federal Road Safety
Commission (FRSC).
“The aim is to create employment for women in a profession
which before now was dominated by men,” he said.
The coordinator stressed the importance of young school
leavers to equip themselves with relevant skills.
