‘Continuity, Panacea To Projects Abandonment’
The Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Chief Fred Majemite, says continuity in governance is the only panacea to forestall the existence of abandoned projects in the state.
Majemite said this in Ughelli, Delta, during an advocacy tour and town hall meeting organised by the government to take stock of its achievements in the area.
He said continuity would bring about speedy development and urged the people of the area to discard ethnic politics as Delta was a multi-ethnic state.
The current administration, he said, had tried to reach every sector of the economy in the state to ensure that the people of the state benefitted from its programmes.
He emphasised that any area of development in the local government where the government had not touched was not deliberate, adding that it would spread development across the state.
He, however, appealed to the people to be patient as those areas would be addressed, and assured the people that there would be no imposition of candidates in the forth coming local government election.
The adviser explained that the State Government was determined to conduct a free and fair election to leave a lasting legacy after leaving office in 2015.
He said the delay in conducting the council polls was because of the expiration of the tenure of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC).
The adviser said a bill to reconstitute the commission was at the state House of Assembly, adding that as soon as the bill was passed into law and the commission constituted, elections would be conducted.
Earlier, the Ovie of Ughelli, Oharisi 111, the monarch said that the people of the area were pleased with the development stride of the government.
He commended the State Government for its initiative on back-to-agriculture, meant to prepare the people for a Delta beyond oil, and urged that government should lay emphasis on road construction and rehabilitation not only in Ughelli South but other local government areas.
He noted that the problem of road was common in the state, as virtually all roads, especially link roads were in bad shape.
At the town hall meeting, those who spoke also commended the government for its efforts at development but appealed for empowerment.
The team also visited Udu and Ughelli North Local Government Areas where they met with both traditional rulers and people of the localities.
