NEMA, Deputy Speaker Plan Relief For Ogoni Communities
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has assured the Sogho community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State that relief would soon come their way.
The Zonal Coordinator, NEMA, South-South Zone, Mr. Emenike Umesi, gave the assurance at Sogho when he visited the community for assessment of the affected area to determine the level of the agency’s assistance following the devastation of the community as a result of communal disturbances.
He told the community that NEMA’s visit was on the instance of the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Leyii Kwanee, who had written to the agency on the devastation arising from the disturbances in the community.
Represented by the Rivers State Desk Officer, NEMA, Pastor Demian Egwu the coordinator assured the community that NEMA would do everything possible to bring succour to the communities within the ambits of its resources.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Leyii Kwanee, assured the Sogho community that he was working in collaboration with NEMA to cushion the effects of the disturbances that left many people homeless.
He thanked the NEMA authorities for responding to his petition, assuring them of the cooperation of the communities in their assessment exercise.
Speaking, the Councillor representing Sogho, Prince Abalubu emphasised the need for NEMA to assist the communities considering the magnitude of destruction from the disturbances.
The NEMA officials, who were accompanied by officials of the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) were received by the deputy speaker, chiefs and community leaders.
