Okporomini, Part Of Egi Clan – Elders
Elders, Traditional Rulers and Opinion leaders of Okporomini community rose from a town hall meeting weekend, insisting that they are part and parcel of Egi clan in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government.
In a press release signed by Elders Joshua Ohadiwa, Rueben Owusuma, His Royal Higness Edward Jacob Diwe and Ikechuku Sunday, Chairman Community Development Committee (CDC), the community said the clarification became necessary because of misgivings in certain quarters.
They stated that since time immemmorial, the community had always alligned itself with their kins and kiths in Egi clan observing all historical festivals, customs and traditions.
The statement further stated that oral history had it that, the former abode of the people were somewhere near Erema, one of the biggest community in Egi, pointing out that the playground, shrines and other relics are still visible at the site up till date.
According to them, their ancestors moved out of the site to the present abode because of some natural disasters. “we were later joined by other people from neighbouring Ekpeye Communities that were also escaping similiar fate.”
It was also stated that Umu-Edi, one of the dorminant family in the community also exist at Erema, and was recently accorded an autonomy by elders of Erema, an occasion widely celebrated.
The statement while warning those associating the community with other ethnic groups in the state to desist because the issue had already been settled when Egi Clan Councils of Tradiditionals Rulers and Chiefs under the able leadership of his Royal Magesty, Eze Dr Kingdom Elemchuku Elenwa admitted Okporomini as one their own.
It however, said the issue as historical matter requires that any youth who wanted to make comments ought to get advice from their elders before displaying their ignorance before the in the pages of newspaper, saying in future the community might seek traditional remedies from them for distorting history.
