Commissioner Urges Integration Of Youth Bodies

sioner for Youths Development, Sir Owene Wonodi says youths in the state would be better position to benefit from government policies when they work in unity and speak with one voice rather than having numerous youth formations.
The Commissioner made the assertion when he received members of Rivers State Youth Federation led by its National President, Comrade Mujiton Adokiye paid him a courtesy visit to his office in Port Harcourt, Tuesday.
Sir Wonodi averred that even though the constitution privides for freedom of association of the multiplication of youth bodies in the state would do harm rather than good to youths in the state.
He informed the group that he has released the 2012 subvention and a bus for youth body in the state and urged them to liaise with Comrade Oko Jaja led youth executives to access their entitlement.
He emphasised the need for all groups to work together for the betterment of the state adding that his administration has put mechinary to check all activities of youth bodies across the 23 local government areas in the state.
The State Commissioner thanked the group for their peaceful disposition in carrying out their activities and urged them to preach peace and maintain law in the state noting that development can only thrive when there is peace and tranquility in the society.
Earlier, the State President of Rivers Youth Federation, Comrade Mujiton Adokiye said the organization came into existence in November, 1992 by formation of coalisation of Rivers youth leaders who opted for one body to operate adding that their organisation is a registered member of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
He told the Commissioner that the group has been working with the state security operatives in promoting peace in the state adding that they have been carrying out programmes without any form of assistance from the state government.
The RYF President decried the level of marginalisation against the body by past administrations in the state and appealed to the commissioner to carry the group along in the scheme of things in the state.
