The 2012 World Environment Day billed to hold, Tuesday 5th June 2012 could not hold afterall. The postponement was due to the three days morning declared by the Federal Government over the Dana Air crash in Lagos which killed over 153 people.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment Sir George Nwaeke who announced the postponement of the Port Harcourt civics centre, regretted the inconvenience the postponement has caused the people, stressing that a new date would be announced.

Hon. Nyeche stressed the need for residents of the state to assist government in its effort to achieve a green environment, by ensuring that natural resources are used in a way that would not impact negatively on the environment.
“We need to ensure that for everything we do, we need to think about it, even when you want to use water, you need to use it in a sustainable way,” she said.
