RSG To Train Finance Staff At Tinapa
Rivers State Government says arrangement have been concluded to train civil servants in the state, particularly those in the finical and accounting departments, in August this year, at the TINAPA Business Resort, in Cross Rivers State.
The State Commissioner for Finance Dr. Chamberlin Peterside disclosed this in an interview with The Tide at the weekend, in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the training is important as participants would be exposed to key concepts and practices of modern International Public Sector Accounting as based on accrual method rather than the current cash method accounting.
“This training exercise is very crucial to continued effort of the administration of the executive governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi in further developing human capacity in the public service as well as building the desired and solid institutions that is the bedrock of sustainable democratic governance”, Peterside said.
The commissioner explained that this is to compliment the efforts of the Federal Government in the gradual transition to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) in the public before the end of 2013.
“The training is in partnership with a renowned global financial training company called “Euro Money Training of London” focused on IPSAS, and will be conducted for two groups of participants in two separate sessions for a duration of one week each”, he stated.
The state finance boss, further stated that the knowledge and skills that would be acquired in the training would systematically engender higher levels of transparency and accountability of public funds Hon. Peterside also revealed that the training would key in the series of regular workshops and seminars they would organise for accounting and finance personnel in the civil service.
