NUJ To Begin Monitoring Of LG Projects
The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has said it will soon begin the monitoring of developmental projects embarked upon by the 23 local government councils in the state.
NUJ Chairman in the state, Mr. Opaka Dokubo disclosed this while speaking at Degema Town, when he led members of the state working committee (SWC) on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Ibigoni Daddy Pokima.
Dokubo said; “We want to serve as true monitors of development projects in all the 23 local government areas of Rivers State. We are happy the local government councils in the state have begun a sort of healthy competition amongst themselves to really show that there is government at the grassroots.”
The NUJ chairman, who lauded the Degema Council boss for his giant stride within few months in office, called on the people of the area to look out for what they can do to uplift the fortune of the area.
He pledged the commitment of the union to partner with Degema Local Government Council in order to achieve set goals and urged the council chairman to be courageous, focussed and committed in the discharge of his duties.
In his response, Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Ibigoni Daddy Pokima said his administration was ready to demonstrate transparency and accountability at any time and appealed to the people of the area in Diaspora to come home and join in the effort to development it.
Pokima expressed the commitment of his administration to ensure that the people of the area never regretted voting him into office through the provision and even distribution of developmental projects.
He commended the state council of the NUJ for re-electing an indigene of the area as its chairman and promised to continue to support the programmes of the union in the state.
