Police Arrest Four Women Over Stolen Babya
The Police in Delta State announced the
arrest of four women in Asaba in connection with a stolen baby.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
Mr Charles Muka, who said this at a press conference in Asaba, Tuesday, added
that the stolen baby had been recovered.
The PPRO, who paraded the women, said the
child was stolen on April 27 at Ogwashi-Uku, Delta.
Muka said the eight-month old baby; Destiny
Umeh, was the son of one Innocent Umeh, a commercial motorcyclist in
Ogwashi-Uku.
He confirmed that two of the suspects were
from Ogwashi-Uku while the other two, a nurse and her worker from Ossisioma in
Abia, were the receivers of the stolen baby.
Muka said the suspects had confessed to the
crime and were already helping the police to unravel the cases of child theft
within Ogwashi-Uku and its environs in recent times.
“On May 6, the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division
received reliable information and trailed the suspects to Ossisioma in Abia and
arrested the four women and recovered the child in good health,’’ he said.
The command also paraded a suspect believed
to be the principal actor in the March 26 kidnap of Mr Tobechukwu Ochei,
brother to the Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Mr Victor Ochei.
He said that the gang had been operating
between Edo and Delta.
Muka said that although the victim had been
released, security operatives acting on information traced and arrested the
suspect on April 4 in Warri.
“Items recovered from him were a Toyota
Camry with registration number, AA 401 GBJ and the sum of N658, 000 from the
booth of the car.
“The suspect has confessed to the kidnap
and he will soon be charged to court,’’ Muka said.
The PPRO, however, called on the public to
give relevant information to the police because “information is the key to
security management.’’
