Senate Considers Ban On Syringes Import
The acting chairman of Senate committee on trade and investment, Senator Ibrahim Gobir has said that the Senate would soon deliberate on the dire need to ban importation of syringes into the country as a way of saving and encouraging local entrepreneurs and investors to survive.
Senator Gobir who was represented by the chairman of the Senate committee, led other members on a visit to the Calabar Free Trade Zone. He said his committee would move a motion in the upper chamber with a view to banning the importation of syringes.
Senator Gobir stated this when the committee visited the FirstMed enterprise at the Free Trade Zone that specializes in the production of syringes. According to him, the firm was capable of producing more than the total needs of the country but was facing competition from foreign firms with substandard produce.
